I  began training with Katharine in 2008.  Swimming was my main source of conditioning and I was in pretty good shape.  However, I recently took up surfing and discovered that I was going to need more than endurance in order to enjoy the sport.  My wife trains with Katharine and had wonderful things to say, so I decided to give personal training a try for the first time in my life.

Katharine helped me set goals of agility, flexibility, balance and core strength.  The workouts are great and imaginative and every exercise we do contributes in some way to all of my goals.  It is amazing how she combines the skills of balance, strength and core into single exercises.  This year, my surfing has improved significantly and I attribute this to her excellent training.

Staying active in your 60’s requires a different approach to fitness. I ride bicycles and mountain bike regularly as well as hike, snowshoe, and ski (Nordic and Alpine).  My fitness goals are strength, balance, muscle tone, and endurance. After spending a short time with Katharine I realized two unexpected benefits: how to avoid training injury and ways to deal with the inevitable aches and pains of physical activity. 5 years ago, after my doctor recommended I do weight training to increase my upper body strength and to prevent Osteoporosis, I began working with Katharine.  I had practiced yoga for years, but had never done weight training before.  I began twice weekly training sessions and soon discovered muscles that I never knew I had, strengthened my entire body, increased my balance, and lowered my blood pressure.  Katharine created good programs that were structured for me, someone in their late 70’s, and that were fun too.  I have made not only positive physical changes, but I have also gained a dear friend as well.
